Janet Elaine Meyers, 76, of McGregor, died Friday, June 12, 2020, at her home in McGregor. She was born on June 13, 1943, to Elmer and Arlene (Larson) Erb in Postville, where she spent her childhood. Janet attended the Bailey Country School until seventh grade, then transferred to Luana School, where she graduated with the class of 1960.

Janet was united in marriage with Earl Bothel Jr. on Sept. 14, 1963, and four children were born to this union. Janet enjoyed going to auctions, painting, cooking and playing euchre and canasta with her sister and mom. She was an avid softball player and she loved her faith and family. Janet liked to “putz” around.

Surviving Janet are three children, Kimberly of McGregor, William of McGregor and Jeremy (Katie) of Davenport; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ronald Erb. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Rob Bothel; her sister, Shirley Hute; and her parents, Elmer and Arlene Erb.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in McGregor, with Rev. Andrew Preuss as the officiant. There will be a two-hour visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. before services at the church on Wednesday.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mar-Mac EMS, McGregor Hook and Ladder and St. Paul Lutheran Church in McGregor.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of McGregor is assisting the family with arrangements.
