One Arrested, One At Large After Separate High-Speed Chases Across Metro Atlanta

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA — A chaotic evening of back-to-back high-speed chases across metro Atlanta ended with one suspect in custody and another still on the run, according to Georgia State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies.

Incident Overview

Two separate high-speed pursuits unfolded within hours of each other Monday evening, creating serious traffic disruptions and public safety concerns across multiple counties, including parts of Clayton County.

  • First pursuit: Initiated near Clayton County by Georgia State Patrol troopers attempting to stop a Dodge Charger for reckless driving.
  • Second pursuit: Took place later in DeKalb County involving a stolen vehicle reported out of Henry County.

Arrest Made in Clayton County Chase

The first incident began around 6:30 p.m. when troopers tried to stop the Dodge Charger. The driver fled southbound on I-75 before exiting onto local roads in Jonesboro. The vehicle reached speeds of over 110 mph, weaving through traffic and residential areas before crashing into a light pole near Battle Creek Road.

The suspect—a 26-year-old male from Atlanta—attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. He is now facing multiple felony charges including:

  • Fleeing and eluding
  • Reckless driving
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Clayton County Jail records confirm he remains in custody without bond pending a court hearing later this week.

Second Suspect Still at Large

In a separate but nearly simultaneous incident, a stolen Toyota Camry led authorities on a high-speed chase through DeKalb and Fulton Counties, eventually crashing near Memorial Drive and fleeing on foot.

The suspect managed to escape despite a perimeter search by multiple agencies and a K-9 unit. No injuries were reported.

Law enforcement officials are asking the public to remain vigilant. The suspect is described as a Black male in his mid-20s wearing a gray hoodie and jeans at the time of the incident.

Community Impact

Residents across Clayton County expressed concern over the rising frequency of high-speed pursuits. Several neighbors near the crash site in Jonesboro reported shaken nerves and minor property damage caused by the fleeing vehicle.

“It sounded like a bomb went off,” said Tameka Hill, a Battle Creek Road resident. “I saw the car slam into the pole and smoke everywhere. Thank God no kids were outside.”

These events mark the fourth high-speed pursuit in the metro area in the past month, raising broader questions about pursuit policy and driver accountability.
