A Jonesboro man has been arrested for allegedly assisting a shooting suspect in escaping the scene of a violent incident that left one man hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police.
Shooting Reported Near Melrose Street and Word Avenue
The shooting occurred on April 21, when officers from the Jonesboro Police Department responded to reports of gunfire near Melrose Street and Word Avenue. Upon arrival, they located a man who had been shot three times in the lower body.
The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital. His condition has not been publicly disclosed, and police have not released his identity.
Surveillance Footage Helps Identify Suspect and Accomplice
Investigators reviewing surveillance video from nearby traffic and security cameras observed the shooting suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Brandon Larrell Williams, entering the rear of a building located in the 1800 block of Cedar Heights Drive shortly after the incident.
Minutes later, a vehicle was captured arriving at the front of the building. A Black male entered the driver’s seat, circled the block, and picked up Williams before quickly leaving the area.
Using registration records and witness confirmation, officers identified the driver as 25-year-old Kendrayle Demarcus Woods of Jonesboro.
Charges Filed Against Both Men
Williams, the alleged shooter, was arrested on May 13 and is facing multiple charges, including:
- Criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder
- Possession of a firearm by a certain person
- Misdemeanor possession of marijuana
He is currently held at the Craighead County Detention Center with bond set at $500,000.
Woods, who authorities say knowingly helped Williams flee the area, was arrested on May 22. He is charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution, a felony offense in Georgia.
Woods remains in custody on a $25,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on June 27.
Motive Unknown, Investigation Ongoing
Police have not yet released a possible motive for the shooting or stated whether the suspect and victim knew each other. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and process digital footage related to the case.
“We’re asking for any additional information that could help bring full accountability in this case,” said a statement from the Jonesboro Police Department.
