Area athletes at State Track and Field competition

River Ridge's Skylar White runs the first leg of the 3200 relay at the State Track and Field Meet Friday in La Crosse. White also took eighth in the Division 3 pole vault at 9-6 and was 14th in the 800-meter run in 2:29.83.

Wauzeka-Steuben's Drew Zimmerman competes in the 110-meter high hurdles at the State Track and Field Meet Friday afternoon.

Several area high school athletes competed in the State Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.
Prairie du Chien junior Gabby Ritchie finished in 10th place in the Division 2 shot put with a toss of 36-3.5.
The River Ridge girls scored 1 point as a team in Division 3.
Sophomore Skylar White scored the point by finishing eighth in the pole vault at 9-6. White also finished 14th in the 800-meter run in 2:29.83.
The River Ridge 3200 relay team of White, Taylor Langmeier, Riley Klein and Faith Schier took 11th in a time of 10:30.71.
Wauzeka-Steuben’s Allison Oswald, unfortunately, was disqualified in the preliminaries of the 300 hurdles in Division 3.
Wauzeka-Steuben senior Drew Zimmerman finished 16th in the preliminaries of the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of 17.25.

Blackhawks advance to sectional

The host Prairie du Chien Blackhawks defeated Fennimore 9-1 for the WIAA Division 3 Regional Championship on Wednesday afternoon. 

Tyler Smock led the Blackhawks with 3 hits and 4 RBI.  Smock drove in runs on a single in the second, a walk in the fifth and a single in the sixth.

Wauzeka-Steuben defeated visiting Cassville 3-2 in a WIAA Division 4 Regional quarterfinal Thursday afternoon in high school baseball action.

The Comets took the lead 2-0 after the first inning.

The Hornets scored a run in the bottom of the fourth and another in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.

Prairie du Chien ousted visiting Lancaster 8-4 in a WIAA Division 3 Regional baseball game Tuesday afternoon. 

Prairie scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. 

Lancaster scored twice in the top of the second to lead 2-1.

Prairie du Chien took a 1-0 lead after the first inning.

Platteville scored a run in the top of the second to tie the game at 1-1.

PdC varsity soccer beats River Valley, varsity reserve ties

On Thursday afternoon the Lady Hawks took on River Valley at home for Parents’ Night for Prairie du Chien soccer. There was a varsity reserve and a varsity game and both teams did a phenomenal job. 

“A special thank you to all the parents who were able to make it tonight as I know your daughters greatly appreciated it,” said Coach Amber Hynnek.

The Prairie varsity defeated River Valley 3-0.

The Prairie du Chien Lady Hawks lost a tough game against Platteville, 17-0, on Thursday afternoon at Bluff View Intermediate School.

Prairie’s starting pitcher, Rilee Wikan, was injured in a slide during practice Wednesday and was unable to pitch.  

The girls also struggled defensively with multiple errors.
