Lakeside to be inducted in the MAMA Hall of Fame


An old postcard reflects the beauty and glamour of Guttenberg's historic Lakeside Ballroom. The dance hall will be inducted into the Midwest All Music Association (MAMA) on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event will take place at the Ponderosa Ballroom in Waldorf.

Clayton Ridge school board highlights

The Clayton Ridge Community School board met in regular session on Sept. 12 at the high school library in Guttenberg.

President John Heying and board members Michael Finnegan, Kathy Ihde, Ellen Johnson, Christine Aulwes and Jason Reimer were on hand, along with Superintendent Shane Wahls, Principal Laura Bilden, board secretary Dave Schlueter, Dean of Students Wade Marlow, school nurse Renae Kraus and Jim Pfaffly.

Candidates file for city, school seats

Candidates have filed for seats on the Guttenberg city council, Guttenberg hospital board and Clayton Ridge Community School for elections to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The deadline for filing was Thursday, Sept. 19. This year marks the first year that Iowa residents will vote for both municipal and school offices on the same day; previously school elections were held in September and municipal elections in November.

Council moves forward on proposed downtown property development

The Guttenberg city council at its regular monthly meeting on Sept. 9 approved a zoning change that would facilitate a proposed property development in downtown Guttenberg, accepted the donation of a portion of ponds along the highway, and considered numerous property matters.

$500,000 grant for city sewer project

The City of Guttenberg received word last week that it was awarded a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Iowa Economic Authority. 

The money will be used to fund sanitary sewer improvements. Total cost of the local project is estimated at $1.4 million.
