LaVonne “Bonnie” Adell Meyer, 88, of Giard, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020, at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. Bonnie was born Dec. 28, 1931, to Kenneth and Alberta (Huff) Cahoon on the family farm, rural McGregor. She attended the country school at Smokey Hollow near Effigy Mounds, then the school in Marquette and graduated from Monona High School in 1950.

Bonnie was united in marriage with Maurice I. Meyer on Dec. 27, 1950, by Rev. Robert Butler at the Methodist Church in McGregor. They had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary shortly before Maury died in January 2011. Throughout their marriage, Bonnie worked alongside Maury on their farm and raised Registered Milking Shorthorn Cattle and their two children. Bonnie was devoted to her family, always at Maury’s side, loving to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was delighted when they could come and visit.

She and Maury were members of the Giard Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She was very active in the United Methodist Women during that time. She enjoyed the opportunities she had to serve with the other women at various projects. Many of the friendships that were formed through UMW have lasted a lifetime. At the age of 18, she became a member of Eastern Star and remained a member for more than 70 years.

Surviving Bonnie are her children, Kenneth I. (Janice) Meyer of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Marlys Meyer of Woodridge, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jody (Nathan) Nus of Arlington, Sara (Erik) Hoffman of Ft. Atkinson, Wis., Dan (Chevonne) Larkin of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Andy (Emily) Meyer of Oconomowoc, Wis., and Amanda Hein (Matt Popp) of Clintonville, Wis.; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Alberta Cahoon; her husband, Maurice; and her brother, Delbert Cahoon.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at Giard Cemetery in Giard, with Rev. Deb Parkison as the officiant.

Due to COVID-19, attendees are asked to wear a mask and continue social distancing. Please bring a lawn chair if you would like to sit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Shriner’s Children Hospital, Mar-Mac EMS, Giard Cemetery and Giard UMW.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service is helping the family with arrangements.
