James Stanley Head, 79, of Lancaster and formerly of Eastman, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020, at Orchard Manor in Lancaster.

He was born on Aug. 13, 1940, in Steuben, the son of Martin and Emma (Hutter) Head. James was united in marriage to Lucinda Mayne on Feb. 22, 1975, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fennimore. James attended high school in Seneca and then worked for a construction company, building various bridges throughout the area. After several years, he returned to the family farm. He purchased the farm and enjoyed working the land until his retirement in 2009. In his younger years, he liked to play softball, began collecting Farmall tractors, hunting mushrooms and picking berries. Later in life, James enjoyed the simple things, having coffee at Bob’s, cracking walnuts or sitting under the shade tree and watching the traffic pass by his property. James enjoyed spending time with his daughters and loved having the grandchildren out to the farm. His quick sense of humor and his enjoyment of conversation with family and friends will be deeply missed.

James is survived by his three daughters; Rachel (Morgan Wakefield) Head of Sparta, Sarah (Steve) Jeardeau of Fennimore, and Heidi (Fred) Hall of Wauzeka; five grandchildren, Jacob and Joey Jeardeau, Logan and Ty Larson, Collin Hall; step-grandson Brendan Hall; brother, Roger (Jeanette) Head of Verona; and his sister, Mary Brackin of Lohrville, Iowa.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucinda, on Oct. 31, 2008; and his brother, Raymond Head.

In keeping with the executive order prohibiting gatherings, a private graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon April 30, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church Cemetery in Seneca. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Orchard Manor and St. Croix hospice staffs for the wonderful care and compassion given to our father. The Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore is assisting the family, and memorials may be sent there, to 925 10th St., Fennimore, WI 53809, or online condolences may be made at www.larsonfuneralhomes.com.
