Direct Connect Development Company has begun the filing process with the Iowa Utility Board for the SOO Green HVDC Link transmission project that will be located underground within the Canadian Pacific Railroad right-of-way through Clayton County — including Guttenberg — and seven other Iowa counties.

SOO Green is a proposed high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line that will run underground along existing transportation corridors from Mason City to Chicago. The project will deliver 2,100 megawatts of wind energy resources in Iowa to communities in the eastern United States that have a strong demand for clean, reliable energy.

As part of the permitting process, the Iowa Utilities Board has scheduled public informational meetings to introduce local landowners to the SOO Green project. The Clayton County meeting will be held on Monday, March 23, from 5:30-7  p.m. at the Luana Savings Bank, 100 Harvest Drive, Luana.

The project is financially supported by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Siemens and Jingoli Power, and has an exclusive strategic partnership with Canadian Pacific Railway. SOO Green is a privately-financed

transmission project and will not require public subsidies or ratepayer investment.

The project is expected to be completed in 2024.
