Gary L. Sedlmayr, 77, passed away peacefully on June 8, after a long illness following a stroke, with his brother by his side. 

He was born in Wyalusing, to Allan and Kathryn (McGill) Sedlmayr. Gary graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1959. Gary was a life-long student, enthusiastically participating in math, science, music and sports in high school, attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison delving into studies of applied math, engineering, physics and medicine and continually reading and discussing innovations in technology and space exploration. 

Gary was on staff at Central Wisconsin Center and Mendota Mental Health for decades, serving as a caring and compassionate aide and psychiatric Care Technician to the many residents and patients at both institutions, retiring in 2011 after 40 years of service. 

Gary is survived by his three daughters Dena (Todd Peterson) Sedlmayr, Peggy (Jeffrey) Maertz and Sondi (Scott) Cummins; eight grandchildren Lysti (Michael) Bowers, Kari (Ryan Kerver) Grassman, Nicole, Kristin and Hunter Grassman, Duncan Peterson and Cailin and Kieran Maertz; four great-grandchildren Cheyanne, Elliott, Eiley and Jack; his brother Jerry Friday, brother-in-law William Peebles; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Allene Peebles. 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 14, at Bethany Evangelical Free Church, 301 Riverside Drive, Madison. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of the service on Saturday at the church. Following the service, a luncheon will be served. Private interment services are to be held the following Monday. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Hannah’s House East and Heartland Hospice for the loving care shown to Gary.
