Charles B. Enke, 89, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Mt. Hope, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Prairie Maison. 


He was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Patch Grove, the son of Alvin and Sadie (Wilkinson) Enke. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Irene Long in 1955. Together, they farmed in the Mt. Hope area until his retirement in 1988, when they moved to Prairie du Chien. 


Chuck loved woodworking and was active in the Town and Country Jamboree where he served as the past president. He enjoyed dancing on Friday nights at Huckleberry’s. Irene preceded him in death in 2005. 


He is survived by his children, William Enke, of McGregor, Iowa, Jeanne (Dan) Case, of Lancaster, and Bob AJ (fiance Paula Sturmer) Enke, of Mt. Hope; son-in-law, Dennis Paulus, of Bloomington; a grandchild Penny (Dan) Schelberger; great grandchildren, Riley and Emma; along with his special friend Phyllis Kratochvill Enke. 


He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter Judy Paulus; a brother Maurice; and an infant sister.


Funeral services will be Friday, March 2, at 11 a.m., at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien, Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating, with burial in the Union Nagel Cemetery in Patch Grove. Military rites will be accorded graveside. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
