Russell James Rust, 84, of Elkader, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at the Elkader Care Center.  

Memorial services were Wednesday, Nov, 1 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Gary Hatcher. Visitation was before services at the church.

Inurnment was at the Garnavillo Community Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo.

Russell was born May 30, 1933, in Arlington, the son of Reimer and Tina Rust.

Russell received his education locally and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  In 1955, Russell married Gerda Christensen and the two were blessed with five children.  For over 30 years, Russell worked for John Deere in Waterloo till his retirement. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his five children, Lisa (Dave) Hickman, Sonny (Bev) Rust, Mark (Barb) Rust, Carla (Dan) Harris and Mike Rust; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Chad Hickman; siblings, Edna Rust in infancy, Hydena Wessels, Tilda Wildeborer, Irene Vetter, Carl, Herman, Paul and Lawerence Rust.
