Monona City Councilwoman Randee Koenig announced at the May 15 regular meeting that it would be her last as a member of the council.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time and I’ve learned a lot,” said Koenig, who’s served on the council for six years. “Maybe I’ll do it again down the road, but, right now, I’m needed at home.”

Speed sign update

During the police report, chief Jo Amsden and officer David Heins updated the council on the speed sign that was first put up last fall. It’s since been placed at several entrances into town, and is currently on South Main Street.

“It’s been a useful tool for us,” Heins said. “All points of entrance have people going fast. For drivers coming into town, it slows them down. I think it’s really working.”

With the sign in place, Heins noted it also frees officers up to sit at some other problem areas.

While updating the council, Amsden also noted that patrolling of the city park will increase, particularly at night, now that summer is approaching. In addition, she reminded the public to make sure homes and vehicles are locked.

“When the weather gets warmer, things do happen,” she said.”
