Hawkettes second at regional,

earn trip to state competition

On Saturday, Jan. 30, the Prairie du Chien Hawkette Dance Team attended the WACPC Southern Dance Regional Competition held at Watertown High School. The team competed in two divisions in hopes of advancing to state. The girls placed second in the Division 4 Pom category and second in the Division 2 Kick category, allowing them to advance on to state in both divisions.

Coach Kelli Saxe said, “Saturday was a great day! The girls had really strong performances, but we were up against some fierce competition, so we just weren’t quite sure what the outcomes would be. I couldn’t be more proud of my girls! They have worked so hard toward this goal, doing literally everything I could ask of them, so I think they are truly deserving! I am also so very thankful for all of the parental support we’ve had this year! I think the girls have performed even better knowing there is a crowd of people cheering us on and sharing these special days with us! We all are looking so forward to state!”

The WACPC State Dance Championships are held at the La Crosse Center this Saturday, Feb. 6. The Hawkettes perform their pom routine at 10:16 a.m. and their kick routine at 1:28 p.m., with awards around 2:30 to 3 p.m.

The team would love to see some Prairie du Chien fans in the stands cheering them on (wear pink)! If you are unable to attend, you can follow the competition at www.foxsports.net.
