PdC-WS grapplers come from behind to beat Viroqua

On Tuesday evening, Jan. 5, the PdC/WS wrestlers welcomed Viroqua for a nonconference dual meet.

The meet started at 152#, where Sloane of Viroqua would prove to be too much for Zach Swiggum and record a first period fall. At 160#, Bernett of Viroqua would major decision Brendan Fleshner for a 10-0 Viroqua lead. At 170#, Ethan Swiggum wrestled tough for the entire match, before eventually falling to returning state qualifier Gilardi 3-1. Stephen Ronnfeldt would get PdC on the board with a couple of nice fireman’s carries for takedowns and a win over Springborn 8-3. Peyton Hall would then dominate his opponent at 195# the entire match with a series of passbys for takedowns and a lot of riding before pinning Johnson. At 220#, Viroqua’s Normann would record a fall over Luke Wright. At 285#, Jeremy Lessard only needed one takedown before pinning Sherry in the first period to cut the lead to four. At 106#, Reid Koenig would be pinned in the second period by highly ranked McClelland. At 113#, Chase Watson would major decision Oldham 13-3 before Blake Garcia would beat Leer for the second time in a week 9-2 at 120#. The two of them met on Day 2 of Bi-State as well. Clayton Beers would do the same thing at 126#, with a major decision 13-4 over Dach. Beers also majored Dach at Bi-State. Tyler Cota was then pinned at 132# by returning state qualifier Hannah. At 138#, Nick Rogge pinned Froiseth with a wicked double arm bar to put PdC up 32-31. This meant that whomever would win the last match of the night at 145# would secure a victory for their team. Tyler Smock came out firing on all cylinders and pinned Firebaugh to lock up the win for the Blackhawks from PdC 38-31.

With the win, PdC improves to 1-0 in the SWC and 11-2 overall. Their next action will be on Thursday in Richland Center (7:00) for a conference dual.
