Derrold Wayne Hartley, 91, of Soldiers Grove, passed away Dec. 25, 2015, at Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice Care in Viroqua after a short illness.

He was born Dec. 31, 1923, in Richland County to Lloyd and Myrle (Smith) Hartley. On June 8, 1948, he was united in marriage to Ruth Brock in Richland Center.

A life-long farmer, Derrold farmed in Richland and Crawford counties his entire 91 years. He served on many farm related board of directors. He loved his family, friends and his farm. He enjoyed a good practical joke and lunch at the Kickapoo Corners.

He is survived by one son, Dean (Donna) Hartley of Soldiers Grove; three daughters, Diane (Rod) Smith of Waukesha, Nancy (Jerry) Brockway of Soldiers Grove, Jan (Joe) McDonald of Viroqua; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Dobbs of Richland Center, Audrey (Don) Larson of Soldiers Grove; one brother-in-law, Jim (Carol) Brock of Richland Center; one sister-in-law, Mary Hansen of Richland Center; special friend, Jena Keller; many relatives and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his parents, Lloyd and Myrle Hartley; and his brother, Leland Hartley.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 12 p.m. at Sugar Grove Church of Christ. Pastor Dennis Johnson will officiate and burial will be in the Sylvan Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sime Funeral Home in Readstown on Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 11 a.m. until time of services.

The family would like to thank Kris Brueggen , Vernon Memorial Hospital and Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice Care for the respectful and dignified care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Crawford Rescue Squad or the Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice Care. Blessed be the memory of Derrold Hartley.
