Brian Kent Downing, of Mt. Laurel, N.J., 63, died Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Brian was born to a military family stationed at Fort Gordon, Ga., to Sgt. Harold (Jake) and Alice Siebrecht Downing on Feb. 22, 1952. As a military family he was raised in several different areas from Augusta, Ga., to Tegernsee, Germany to Aurora, Colo., to Garnavillo.

He graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1970 and then attended Wartburg College in Waverly, graduating in 1974. It was at Wartburg that he met his wife-to-be, Jennifer Greenley. They were married on Dec. 18, 1971, in Cedar Falls. To this union, two sons were born, Travis and Blake.

In 1988, the family moved to Mt. Laurel, N.J., where Brian worked for Citi Bank for nearly 30 years. He was looking forward to retirement when he passed away very suddenly of coronary-related issues. He had been in Colorado just four days earlier to help celebrate his mother’s 99th birthday. Brian enjoyed playing golf, puttering in the yard and spending time with Jenny and family.

Brian is survived by his wife, Jennifer of Mt. Laurel; son, Travis (Kelly); son, Blake (Georgia), two granddaughters, Taylor and Kylie; mother, Alice Downing; brother, Harold “Butch” (Sandy) Downing; sister, Sandra Britton (Bill); three nephews, Harold "Bud" and John Downing, Brian L. Britton; niece, Ashley Beals; one great-nephew, Bryce Beals; two great-nieces, Jadyn Beals and Ava Britton; aunt, Naomi Klinge; numerous cousins and sisters-in-law, Susan Ida (Chris) and Becky.

Brian was preceded in death by his father; both sets of grandparents and his in-laws.

The family requests that those wishing to provide a memorial in Brian’s name, may contribute to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Garnavillo as he was baptized there and was a frequent attendee during visits. Brian was loved by all who knew him.
